Stem Cell Treatment at leading in India for various types of Neurological Disorders and other health conditions

Stem cells are cells found in all multicellular organisms. Stem Cells have the ability to develop into many different cell types in the body during early life and growth. They also act as internal repair system, dividing essentially without limit to replenish other cells in the human body during the life time. When a stem cell divides, each new cell has the potential either to remain a stem cell or become another type of cell with a more specialized function, such as a skin cell, hair cell, or a red blood cell.

Stem Cells are unspecialized cells capable of renewing themselves through the process of division of cells. This can sometimes occur even after long periods of inactivity. Moreover, under certain physiologic or experimental conditions, the stem cells can be induced to become a tissue or organ or specific cells. This is how Stem Cells are different from the normal body cells and hence a lot of research is going on around the world to treat variety of diseases or health conditions such as Osteoarthritis, Diabetes, Diabetic foot, Parkinson's disease, Stroke, Cerebral Palsy , Hair Transplantation ,Breast Augmentation etc. using the stem cells.

Stem cells are capable of dividing and renewing themselves for long periods, they are unspecialized and they can give rise to specialized cell types.

Stem cells represent an exciting area in medicine because of their potential to regenerate and repair damaged tissue. Some current therapies, such as bone marrow transplantation, already make use of stem cells and their potential for regeneration of damaged tissues. Other therapies are under investigation that involves transplanting stem cells into a damaged body part and directing them to grow and differentiate into healthy tissue.

There are different types of Stem Cells like the embryonic stem cells, fetal stem cells, adult stem cells, peripheral blood stem cells, umbilical cord stem cells and induced pluripotent stem cells.

A number of adult stem cell therapies already exist, particularly bone marrow transplants that are used to treat leukemia or blood cancer and various other blood related diseases. For many years now stem cells have been used to treat cancer patients with conditions such as leukemia and lymphoma. There has been a tremendous increase in the number of patients and diseases that have been treated by stem cell therapy across the globe in the past couple of years.

At our network stem cell therapy centers in India, the team of Neurosurgeons has been treating a variety of neurological diseases in the past few years. The center is credited with the World's first successful Stem Cell therapy for Parkinson's disease. The team has also successfully performed the country's first Stem Cell Transplant for Traumatic Brain Injury making India the second country in the world to use this therapy.

Some of the Neurological Disorders that are treated using Stem Cell Therapy

Spinal Cord Injury

A spinal cord injury usually refers to an injury to the spinal cord which begins with a sudden, traumatic blow to the spine that fractures or dislocates vertebrae. The damage begins at the moment of injury when displaced bone fragments, disc material, or ligaments bruise or tear into spinal cord tissue. It can cause myelopathy or damage to nerve roots or myelinated fiber tracts that carry signals to and from the brain. Some injuries will allow partial recovery; others will result in complete paralysis.

Stroke

Stroke also known as a cerebrovascular accident (OVA), is the rapidly developing loss of brain function(s) due to disturbance in the blood supply to the brain. This can be due to lack of blood flow caused either by blockage or leakage of blood. As a result, the affected area of the brain is unable to function. This leads to inability to move one or more limbs on one side of the body, inability to understand or formulate speech, or an inability to see one side of the visual field. A stroke is a medical emergency and can cause permanent neurological damage, complications, and lead to death.

Stem Cell Therapy for Stroke & Spinal cord injury is advised early intervention after onset. Studies have shown improvement in level of consciousness, cognitive functions and neurological functions ultimately improving quality of life.

Parkinson's Disease

Parkinson's disease is a degenerative disorder of the central nervous system that impairs motor skills, cognitive processes, and other functions. Cognitive and neurobehavioral problems,-including dementia, are common in the advanced stages of the disease. Parkinson's disease usually appears around the age of 60, although there are young-onset cases. Stem Cell Therapy is suggested for early onset of Parkinson's disease. In some patients subjective improvement found in symptoms like facial expression, gait, and reduction in freezing episodes. There is also reduced dosages of drugs in some other patients.

Motor Neuron Disease

The motor neuron diseases (or motor neuron diseases) (MND) are a group of neurological disorders that selectively affect motor neurons, the cells that control voluntary muscle activity including speaking, walking, breathing, swallowing and general movement of the body. Symptoms usually present themselves between the ages of 50-70, and include progressive weakness, muscle wasting, and muscle fasciculations, spasticity or stiffness in the arms and legs, and overactive tendon reflexes. Patients may present with symptoms as diverse as a dragging foot, unilateral muscle wasting in the hands, or slurred speech. For Stem Cell Therapy to be used to treat Motor Neuron Disease, early diagnosis and intervention should be carried out in order to arrest/slow down the disease. Studies have shown improvement in quality of life in some patients.

Cerebral Palsy

Cerebral palsy is a disorder of movement, muscle tone or posture that is caused by injury or abnormal development in the immature brain, most oftenaround birth. Signs and symptoms appear during infancy or preschool years. In general, cerebral palsy causes impaired movement associated with exaggerated reflexes or rigidity of the limbs and trunk, abnormal posture, involuntary movements, unsteadiness of walking, or some combination of these. The effect of cerebral palsy on functional abilities varies greatly. People with cerebral palsy often have other conditions related to developmental brain abnormalities, such as intellectual disabilities, vision and hearing problems, or seizures. A broad spectrum of treatments may help minimize the effect of cerebral palsy and improve a person's functional abilities. Studies have shown that Stem Cell Therapy has helped to show improvement incomprehension, learning and memory, thereby helping them to become independent learners. Further efficiency is better in younger age group of children.

Muscular Dystrophy

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is an Auto Immune Disease which is when the body starts to destroy itself. In MS, the body attacks and destroys the fatty tissue called myelin that insulates an axon/nerve, and the process is called demyelination. If damage is severe it can also destroy the nerve/axon itself. MS affects the central nervous system and inflames the white matter in the brain which creates plaques. White matter is below the top layer of our brain and spinal cord. Plaques block a signal from being passed from the body to the spinal cord and brain. Multiple Sclerosis affects 4,00,000 Americans and 2.5 million people worldwide. It is found that MS is 2-3 times more common in Caucasian women. MS is found most often in people between 20 to 50 years old. Despite extensive research, we still don't know what causes MS. However they have found associations and links between many factors including genetic and environmental. Some of the causes of MS are sex, latitude, racial group,socio- economic status, family history, migration and Infections. Some of the common symptoms of MS are paralysis, poor co-ordination, altered sensation, tremors, visual loss, optic neuritis, fatigue, spasticity, constipation, diarrhea, incontinence, urgency, hesitancy, incontinence, poor memory, delayed processing, depression ( 50% of the patients ), impaired libido and sexual inadequacy.
